As I was leafing through the latest issue (May) of my beloved ELLE DECOR magazine the other day, I was happily surprised to see Inspire-ation abound.  Style icon Daphne Guinness has 2 of my Flor tables in her living room, mirroring their beautiful surroundings (see below and on p. 115).  Next I see my Herbst desk on page 32!  It doesn’t stop there either.  Avery Boardman used an image from the 2010 Westchester Showcase house living room that I designed for the Promotion section, also in Elle Decor.

See below for more images of the living room exhibiting even more Inspired by Rona pieces.

It’s Spring everyone!  Continue to spread the positive vibes and let’s get inspired.  For more info on Inspired by Rona goto: www.inspiredbyrona.com

Billiard Chic

28Mar11

Whether you prefer Pool over Ping-Pong they are both hotter than ever and in the spotlight of late. More and more night-time spots offering the table sports have opened here in the city within the past few years.  Recently, a beautiful polished concrete Ping-Pong table was installed at Tompkins Square Park in the East Village and two tables at Bryant Park where anyone can play.

Blatt Billiards here in New York has been the source for all things Billiards since 1923.  The Blatt family still to this day owns and runs their business producing beautifully crafted custom billiard tables and other furnishings.  I was inspired by The Broadway table and decided to mix in some of my own designs to create a fresh looking game room just in time for spring.

Art Basel – the famous yearly art show ended in the first week of December but the show still seems to continue inside the W Hotel South Beach, Miami. Hotel owner Aby Rosen’s stunning private art collection featured at W Hotel is like an extension of the Art Basel fair. The lobby features large art pieces by George Condo, Andy Warhol, Kenny Scharf and Damien Hirst. The spectacular marble walls provide a perfect background for the exotic art work.  Damien Hirst’s painting titled- ‘Zinc Sulfinate’ featured in W Hotel, Miami   lobby

Had a wonderful dinner at Mr.Chow’s. My favorites – dancing shrimp & saketini. This Michael Chow-designed space features the chain’s signature screens, white table cloths and black lacquer furniture. The most stunning piece however is the 125-foot gold leaf and Swarovski crystal chandelier !!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and it’s time for turkey!!! While most bloggers at this time are blogging about ‘Turkey’- the bird, I am taking a little detour. For a change, I am blogging about ‘Turkey’- the charming Mediterranean country.

In the second week of October, I had the opportunity to spend 6 days in Turkey.  Our first destination was Istanbul. There, we spent most of our time site seeing, visiting museums and the famous bazaars.

    Rona At Spice Bazaar, Istanbul

Had champagne & cocktails at the Sunset Grill & Bar overlooking the Bosphorus  river in Istanbul

Spent  two days in heaven at The Gloria Serenity Spa & Resort,Antalya. Relaxing during the day and discoing at night on the water on this beautiful floating barge.

Ruins at the City of Ephesus – Most well preserved Roman ruins in the eastern Mediterranean. The mosaic floors  of the houses in Ephesus, with its intricate Turkish designs are a work of art. The Turkish furniture, rugs and accessories reflect similar intricacy and attention to detail.

Throughout the trip, I picked up some interesting souvenirs and gifts.  Apple tobacco for a friend to use in her ‘hoopa’.  From Antalya – handmade jewelry, jewelry boxes, & old evil eye spiritual token. Although the trip was a little short, overall, it was  wonderful !!!!

The annual NYIGF is here- which means a rat race for designers and retail store owners to buy, buy buy! Why do we love the Gift Show so much? Because we get all these amazing goods wholesale!! That’s the best part about hiring an interior designer, while everyone is busy paying one price(if it is even sold in stores)…we are paying half! Being at the show could be quite overwhelming, but after being in this business for nearly 20 years now, I know what vendors I love and where to find them! Here are some newbies that I found and fell in love with this year:

Kudu Horn Lamp at Outpost Original

Tini Tabliz Table from Oomph!

These are just a few of my new, favorite furniture designers. If you want to find out more contact me at ronalandmandesign@yahoo.com!

Now that season 4 has begun Modern Glamour is going to recap all the amazing mid-century modern furniture that has taken place on the set of the Mad Men!   Mad Men seems to be the trend setter for not only the interior world but fashion as well. Fall 2010 fashion was all inspired by the 1960′s dapper Mad Men look. Love the decor on Mad Men? This blog post is going to teach how you can recreate and furnish your own Mad Men living space using Inspired furniture.

What would Mad Men be without a bar? Drinking and smoking is what makes half this show sexy! Now you can have your own Mad Men bar cart as well with Inspired’s Bar Lupino.

We just love the office furniture in Season 1 of Mad Men at Betty’s psycologist’s office. Especially the end table and the plush arm chair. Now you too can have these pieces with the Deco side table and Avianca arm chair (comes in several finishes and colors)!

Not only do we LOVE Don Draper, but we also love the furniture in his old office at Sterling Cooper. This mid-century modern table and chair have a distinct personality to them that well describe Don himself: refined, straightforward and hard-edged. Check out our more alternative yet similar in style version of these pieces!

Matrix desk has the Scandinavian modern steel legs and hard lines that Draper’s coffee table contains.

As does the simplistic, box-like arm-chair: Temperley by Inspired. This chair comes in custom finishes as well.

What would the show be if we didn’t have the  lovely GLAMOUROUS stepford wife: Betty Draper. In season 3, Betty hires her own interior designer and gives her own input on her own taste for decor! We just love this Victorian styled chair with modern upholstery!

Now you too can be your own Betty Draper with Inspired’s Trono arm-chair! Custom finishes and sizes are available.

Many of these amazing furniture pieces by Milo Baughman (famous 1950′s mid-century furniture designer) are expensive one of a kinds. However Inspired has very similar case goods that might interest you and for a much lower price! Compare the two designers below!
